Ian Taylor - "A Life Well Lived"
Ian Taylor - "A Life Well Lived"
Ian Taylor trained in Fine Art at Sheffield College of Art and the Ruskin School of Drawing Oxford University and has dedicated his life to painting and drawing. He grew up in the Northeast of England in the 50’s and 60’s in a town where football and friendship was everything. His work draws reflection on his childhood and the region in general. His hometown, old cowboy movies, and his love of the beautiful game make regular appearances in his paintings. Ian moved to Titahi Bay from the South Island in 2009 with his wife and two young children. They have lived in the same house overlooking the bay and Mana Island ever since. Ian loves the area and is well known on the beach with his dog Basil. His wife, Ruth, is also a well-known figure in the Wellington art scene, designing large scale murals around the city. |

Ian spent many years teaching at schools around the local area and, now retired, spends hours immersed in his passion, painting in his backyard studio. Ian’s bold use of colour is a common theme in his work. Your mind takes in the visual as a whole, and then bounces around the work as the colours draw your eyes to individual areas. Although the colours are bold and generous, there is an echo of solitariness to some pieces. His confident use of paint on the canvas make for striking contrasts and strong emotive responses. Ian’s paintings evoke feelings of a simpler time, and of a life well lived.
